Ajay Devgan’s quirky romantic comedy entertainer, De De Pyaar De 2, is trying to raise Rs. It earned Rs 3 crore on the seventh day, which has registered a decline of about 10 percent today. The film, directed by Anshul Sharma, continued to gain popularity, but at a lower level. The total gross of De De Pyaar De 2 was Rs. Out of which Rs 47.50 crore. 33 crores came in the weekend itself.
Compared to its original, the sequel lagged far behind by a margin of Rs. 8 crores. The film, released in 2019, collected Rs 55.75 crore in its opening week and ended its journey at the box office with around Rs 95 crore, earning a hit verdict.
However, despite getting an opening weekend in the same range, the sequel is clearly not matching its original film. Since De De Pyaar De 2 had no competition, it should have performed better at the box office. Even the sequel factor could not generate much buzz among the audience, which is why the film is headed towards a disappointing end. Based on current trends, the film seems to end up around Rs 200 crore. 80 crore figure, which is a bad figure for such a well budgeted film.
However, one must keep in mind that the rom-com genre in general has been struggling in the post-pandemic times. What was working earlier is no longer appealing to the audience. In such a scenario, filmmakers should focus on bringing something new with a unique plot to revive the business of this genre; Otherwise, things are going pretty downhill.
