Johnson, Hart, Gillan, Black are in full Avatar mode in Jumanji 3 first look
Production has officially begun on ‘Jumanji 3’, reuniting Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Jack Black for what the cast promises will be the biggest installment yet. Johnson also shared that he would be wearing the dice from the original 1995 film as a tribute to Robin Williams.

‘Jumanji 3’ is officially ready to roll the dice and “let the game begin.” The team behind Sony’s highly anticipated sequel shared the first photo of the main cast in costume on Wednesday, marking the start of production. Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Jack Black are back in their adventure-ready looks in the image, paired with the caption, “Look who’s open.”
Hart also posted a photo showing his excitement at the moment. “Back in action and I feel great, I miss you Jumanji, this will be our biggest movie yet!” he wrote, hinting at an even more ambitious installment.

The untitled third film follows 2017’s ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ and 2019’s ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’, which successfully rebooted the franchise originally led by Robin Williams in the 1995 adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s book. Director Jake Kasdan returns for the new chapter, co-writing the screenplay with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on December 11, 2026.
Just a day earlier, Johnson posted a behind-the-scenes video from the Universal Studios backlot, surprising fans with a visit to the set. “A little day of Jumanji excitement,” he said. “It’s great to be shooting in Los Angeles. I haven’t shot a movie in Los Angeles in I don’t know since, so it feels great to bring a production back home to Los Angeles.”
Johnson also revealed a meaningful detail about his character this time. He will wear a necklace holding the dice used in the 1995 ‘Jumanji’ film. “It’s a throwback to the original Jumanji with Robin Williams as a tribute to Robin Williams and a way to honor Robin and this entire franchise that he started during the filming of our last Jumanji,” the actor shared.

Returning cast members include Nick Jonas, Alex Wolfe, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Lamorne Morris, and Danny DeVito. Last week, Johnson posted footage from the filming table, writing, “It’s amazing to have the whole gang back together, and our jaws hurt from laughing so hard.”
The modern ‘Jumanji’ films have been global box-office hits, with ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ grossing over $950 million worldwide and ‘The Next Level’ grossing over $801 million. Now, with the cast reuniting and production underway, fans can look forward to another high-energy, heartfelt adventure when Jumanji returns in 2026.
