BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Zayn Malik dropped a surprise collaboration earlier this year. Eyes Closed became the first overseas collaboration for a Korean solo artist and the first K-pop joint project for a British star. The news of their release of the song received a welcome response, leading it to peak at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following the overwhelmingly happy reaction to his work, the former One Direction member revealed how his daughter was the catalyst for his decision to work with the Flowers hitmaker, earning him some dad points.

Zayn Malik told BBC Radio 1 that it was actually the BLACKPINK members who reached out to him for the collaboration, and shared that she wanted to work together. He further said that he chose a song that he had already worked on and recorded, because it was something that the 30-year-old liked. After the Korean star sent her recording, he reworked his vocals to match her vocals.
He praised the singer and the K-pop girl group, saying, “She’s clearly killing it at the moment. Blackpink is everywhere.” Talking about why he decided to make this decision, the star explained how his child influenced the plans, “My daughter is a huge fan. So when she asked to feature, I said, yes. My daughter will think I’m cool again. So I’ll definitely do that. I’m not out of the game yet.” After exiting pop music, he was happy to re-enter because of the opportunity, “It was an honor to get back into it this time with the people who basically own that genre.”
He ended his revelation by giving a shout-out to his counterpart on the track, “If I could say thank you to Jisoo for giving me that opportunity, I would like to say it,” he revealed during a chat.
Meanwhile, Jisoo is expected to release her second solo album next year along with several other collaborations, which fans think she hinted at during the Eyes Closed music video. She is currently on the BLACKPINK Deadline World Tour with fellow members BLACKPINK.
