Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira Kashyap’s first feature film ‘Sharmaji Ki Beti’ has released on Prime Video. Recently, the writer-filmmaker spoke to IndiaToday.in about being called a ‘nepo wife’. Laughing at the title, she said that if she had used her husband’s contacts and reach, she would have been making her fourth film now.

Talking about nepotism and the hue and cry associated with it, Tahira Kashyap said that if it was a result of nepotism, it wouldn’t have taken her seven years to make the film.

“And if I had to take that route, I would have cast a certain person (pointing towards Ayushmann) in a guest role and my film would have easily got approved. There were many temptations, but I stayed away from them,” she added.

Meanwhile, Tahira said she has no problem with someone using their family’s influence for their career: “It’s my journey and I want it to happen a certain way. I have to live by my conscience. If it had anything to do with nepotism, my career would have been different. I would be doing my fourth film right now. However, honestly, I am not judging anyone for the way they choose to be. But my way is different from nepotism. I am not against anyone doing that, because parents work hard to make everything easy for their children. But one has to prove themselves too, because no one will give them a chance again and again.”

“Now that we are talking about it, I think I should use them. I will get Ayushmann to post stories about my film.” should use (I should use that),” she laughed.

When asked if the duo is planning to work together soon, Tahira said, “I have to write something for him and he should like it. We have a lot of respect for the choices we make at home. I want a character I can see him in and he should like the script before we do anything together. I must also say that Ayushmann is an amazing actor and I am proud of him. He is a delight for any director. He completely adapts himself to a film and I am saying this purely from a filmmaker’s perspective. He is a great talent and I hope we can work together someday.”
