Ajay Devgan and R Madhavan return to the big screen in Anshul Sharma’s family drama ‘De De Pyaar De 2’, marking another on-screen face-off after their collaboration in last year’s ‘Shaitan’. The film’s performance at the domestic box office in the opening weekend has outperformed Devgn’s previous release ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, with a significant increase in collections in three days.

According to Sacknilk, on Sunday, The film recorded the highest box office collection in a single dayEarned Rs 13.75 crore. The figure marks a slight but clear increase from Saturday’s earnings, which stood at Rs 12.25 crore. The upward trend reflected strong audience interest, especially for sequels featuring two established stars in a comedic family setting. This growth, though not exponential, indicates a healthy word-of-mouth impact and indicates that the film has managed to maintain its momentum during the weekend.

The opening day collection on Friday started with Rs 8.75 crore, taking the film into single digits. However, the following days saw a 40% increase by Saturday, indicating growing momentum as positive interactions may have encouraged further attendance. The jump in earnings from Friday to Saturday is particularly notable, as it suggests that early audiences responded favorably and helped draw more people to theaters for the rest of the weekend. Such a trend is often seen as a sign of a film’s potential to perform well beyond the opening weekend.

Industry observers noted that the dynamic between Devgan and Madhavan, who were last seen together in ‘Shaitan’, contributed to the anticipation before release. The performance of the sequel so far has exceeded the expectations set by recent sequels starring Devgn, which is in line with the pattern of audience preference for mass-led family entertainers.

While Sunday’s single day collection was the highest for ‘De De Pyaar De 2’, there was an increase in day-to-day collection compared to Saturday.

The family drama format along with the presence of well-known actors was seen as a driving factor in the film’s box office growth.

As the film enters its first full week in theaters, industry watchers will be keeping an eye on whether the continued upward trend continues or stagnates. The film is currently running in theatres.
