Eight years after its release, ‘Qarib Qarib Single’ continues to hold a special place in the hearts of the audience – and in the hearts of actor Parvathy Thiruvothu too. The 2017 romantic drama marked her Bollywood debut opposite the late Irrfan Khan. For Parvati, this experience was both transformative and deeply personal, as she found herself part of a story that was as tender and grounded as its characters.

In a recent conversation with IANS, Parvathy recalled her time working with Irrfan and remembers him with warmth and gratitude. She said, “I think the biggest thing I learned from my time with Irrfan sir was the value of presence. He made you feel like every moment mattered without trying too hard. Working with him really felt like a blessing and that’s something I still replicate in my work.”

That sense of spontaneity and authenticity created a beautiful chemistry on screen. Parvathy and Irrfan as Jaya and Yogi, with their quirky charm, honest interactions and gentle exploration of two imperfect people finding comfort in each other’s company, made their way into people’s hearts and made for a treat for the film to slowly grow among the audience as an enjoyable watch.

Parvati believes that this honesty is what makes ‘Qarib Qarib Single’ timeless. “I think people still return to the movie because it’s not trying to be anything else. It’s just a simple, honest story about two imperfect people finding a little bit of hope in each other. That kind of honesty really sticks out. Every time I watch it again, I notice something new, some cool little details that I’d forgotten before.”

Directed by Tanuja Chandra and written by Ghazal Dhaliwal, the film struck a delicate emotional balance that appealed to the audience. For Parvathy, it remains a milestone that has reaffirmed her belief in effortless storytelling and honest performances. For fans, ‘Qarib Qarib Single’ is one of Irrfan Khan’s most quietly magical performances – made even more memorable by Parvathy’s effortless grace and emotional honesty.

On the work front, Parvathy recently completed the shooting of ‘I, Nobody’, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran. She is currently shooting for the film ‘Pradham Dhrishtay Kuttakkar’ and both these films are scheduled to release in 2026.
