Assamese film Roi Roi Binale has been a huge blockbuster at the box office. Based on available data, the film has grossed over Rs. 15 crores so far in India. At the high end, it could be close to Rs. Even 20 crores. Due to the lack of consistent box office data from the industry, it is difficult to tell exact numbers, but it appears to have become the biggest Assamese film of all time within its first week of release.
To give some specifics, the film is running exclusively in theaters in the state of Assam, which is probably something that has never happened before. In Guwahati, the biggest center of the state, this film is earning around Rs 1 crore every day, whereas no other film has even come close to it. The two biggest films before Jaawaan and Pushpa 2 were around Rs. 65 lakhs. Margins are larger at smaller centres. On BookMyShow, the film has sold over 7 lakh tickets, many of which are in advance for days to come. There are many theaters which are almost completely filled.
The film carries deep emotional resonance as it marks the posthumous release of the state’s beloved artist Zubeen Garg, who passed away earlier this year. This makes it largely unpredictable. The film is running at capacity and earning the same level every day, with very little dip on weekdays. At the current pace, it is difficult to predict where Roi Roi Biennale will ultimately end up. It will comfortably cross Rs. 30 crores. It is probably a target of Rs. 40 crores, but who knows, maybe it could even reach Rs. 50 crores, a figure which would be monumental for Assamese cinema.
