Former CTO of Fintech Company Stripe, Rahul Patil has joined Anthropic as the new Chief Technical Officer. Patil takes steps for the first co-founder Sam McCondlish, who is now taking the position of the chief architect. This change is part of a leadership restructuring within the company.

As an anthropic CTO, Rahul Patil will oversee calculations, infrastructure and estimates along with other engineering works. On the other hand, McCondlish will continue to work on pre-training and large-scale model training. Both will report directly to Anthropic President Daniella Amodi.

Who is Rahul Patil?

According to Patil’s LinkedIn account, he completed his Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer Science from Karnataka before going to America for higher studies. This has created a debate on social media as users say that a student does not need to study in IIT to succeed in the technical industry.

After his education in India, Rahul Patil received a master’s degree in Computer Science from Arizona State University. He also did an MBA from Washington University.

Before his tenure as a CTO in Stripe, Patil was a senior vice president in Oracle.

Why did Anthropic rent Rahul Patil?

According to Techcrunch, anthropic shakeup will bring the company’s product-engineering team in close contact with infrastructure and reference teams. It comes at a time when it is facing strict competition from rivals including anthropic openi and meta when it comes to infrastructure.

Openai has already signed hundreds of billions of dollars of deals with the choice of Nvidia and Softbank, which are to achieve some of the largest gigavat factories to meet the future demand.

Meta is not falling back with more than half a trillion dollars in employed investment.

Anthropic recently launched the AI model’s latest generation, Cloud Sonnet 4.5. The company’s previous model, Opus 4.1, improved all other models, including GPT-5, with the latest comparison of CHATGPT against human industry level experts.
