From weight loss trends to detox clice, nutrition advice is everywhere, but often misleading. At Aajtak Health Summit, Dr. Nandita Iyer, Nutritionist and Health Coach, Author and Dr. Shikha Sharma, Celebrity Dietician emphasized the importance of returning to the basics: shortcuts and myths balanced food, intestine health and natural foods.

Nutrition is 24×7, not one hour in gym

No food can make or break your health. Dr. Nandita Iyer said, “Do not reduce nutrition to a so -called superfood or villain. You have to see it overall.”

He insisted that when exercise gets a certain time during the day, nutrition affects the body 24×7. “Every bite is like a bite that you feed your body, and the body reacts accordingly. That is why the intake of protein is important. We are a high-carb society, which works when most people were farmers. Today, with sedentary lifestyle, extra carbs cause more damage,” he said.

Experts revealed that balance is the missing link in most Indian diets. A specific plate of bread, lentils, and ELU vegetables, Dr. Iyer said, to a large extent there is carbohydrates disguised as protein and fiber.

“Half of your plate should be vegetables and fruits, a quarter protein, another quarter carbs and a thumb shaped part of fats,” he advised.

Intestine health before dieting

Dr. Shikha Sharma said that intestine is the foundation of health and weight management. He said, “Whatever you eat in the most natural form is the best. If you do not have diet and exercise, collagen and biotin will not give you results,” he said.

He said that dieting alone will not work for people above 45. “You must first fix your intestine and liver health. Hormonal imbalance is an important factor, no matter how much diet you give, if hormones are not balanced, weight will not lose.”

Symptoms such as swelling, puffiness, tight fabric and low energy in the legs may be signs of initial warning.

Fasting and myth around detox

An inner fasting, today a popular practice, is often misunderstood. Dr. Iyer said, “People eliminate starchy foods like Sabudana and Potato while fasting, which defeats this purpose. Apart from water, most things technically breaks a fast,” Dr. Iyer said.

It is mostly real. You don’t know how a person has a routine or lifestyle. They will not tell you.”

What to do for better health?

By the time of meals from part control, advice is clear:

  • Eat more raw, colored foods.
  • Preference to protein in every meal.
  • Keep at least 8 out of 10 food home.
  • Late, avoid heavy dinner; Keep the evening meal light.
  • Stay hydrated with at least two liters of water daily.
  • Use only supplement when determined.

Finally, both experts agree on a point: not about nutritional restriction or fear.

As Dr. Iyer expressed, “There is an opportunity for food, not to dread some. Guide yourself positively and don’t be afraid of food.”
