Rajinikanth, Stalin Samman Ilaiyaraja at a grand ceremony, call for Bharat Ratna
Rajinikanth, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and Kamal Haasan, others honored Ilaiyaraja at a grand event in Chennai. He urged the government to honor Ustad with Bharat Ratna.

Under the Tamil Nadu government, Chief Minister MK Stalin, on 13 September, Jawaharlal Nehru felt Sangeet Mestro Isgani Ilaiyaraja at a special event at the Indoor Stadium. Among the attendees of the event were actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, who have collaborated with Mestro many times.

The experienced actor also recalled the time when Ilayaraja sought his help. During the ceremony, Stalin urged the Central Government to honor Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, 82 -year -old music legend in the recognition of its brilliant five -decade career. He appealed to a state government, marked as a composer to 50 years of Mestro.
Stalin further announced the institution of a state award in the name of Ilaiyaraja, which to honor persons who excelled in the field of music. Addressing the composer directly, he requested him to create compositions based on Tamil classical literature and release them as an album, ensuring that the prosperity of the language is passed on the future generations.
In this incident, Ilaiyaraja expressed gratitude, given that this was the first time a government organized a ceremony to honor a musician. He thanked Stalin for recognition.
While reflecting the process of composing his symphony, he shared that he had consciously avoided the influence of Tamil folk traditions with his village, film songs, or any music.
