Inspector Zende Review: Manoj Bajpayee and Gym Serb’s cat and mouse chase is a recreational watch

Date:

plot

Inspector Zende (Jhende), inspired by the True events, follows the tireless pursuit of the dreaded criminal Carl Bhojraj (Jim Sarbh) by the prestigious Cop Madhukar Zende (Manoj Bajpayee) in Mumbai. The story reveals the real life of Xende, which was tracked in Goa after the infamous criminal (inspired by Charles Sobraj), in 1971 and later in 1986, when the Zende tracked him in Goa after escaping from his infamous Tihar Jail.

The film that makes the film is its old school attraction. Instead of relying on technology and gadgets, the tendency and road-smart approach runs the story, a dash of crime, apathy and humor.

what works

Debut director Chinme D. Mandlekar gave full credit for re -rebuilding Mumbai, Mumbai with authenticity. From gritty lane to retro aesthetics, the film beautifully captures the essence of the city. Is it fresh how it avoids the police trops of larger than normal. Bajpai’s Zende is not shouting or is based in glory, his valor lies in his humility and grounded approach.

A mixture of suspense and lightheard moments keeps the story attractive. It looks less like a specific crime drama and more like a cleverly written thriller that celebrates a sharp tendency.

What doesn’t work

While the film attracts your attention, tight editing could accelerate it. His change in Karl Bhojraj’s Manas or the notorious ‘Swimsuit Killer’ would have added more danger to the character.

Exhibition of

Manoj Bajpayee provides a masterclass in restraint, which portrays the Xenda with grit, intelligence and understood power.

Jim Sarbh is fantastic as Karl Bhojraj, attractive yet chilling, and ease menting.

Girija Oak, as the wife of Zende, adds emotional depth. Her performance as a woman torn amid fear and pride is both hearty and reliable.

Sachin Khedekar lended the authority and gravity as the Mumbai Police DGP.

Bhalchandra Kadam and Harish Dudhde shine in auxiliary roles, leaving a strong impression.

final call

With powerful performances, an indifferent yet thrilling settings, and the direction of confidence, Inspector Zende emerges as one of the fresh crime plays in recent times. If you enjoy true-crown thriller, retro-style movies, or intensive cat-and-mouse stories, it is a one-watch on streaming, Netflix since September 5, 2025.
