Apple has confirmed that its next generation iPhone 17 series will start globally on 9 September. The annual launch event not only sets the platform for the company’s latest flagship phones, but also marks the onset of the onset of a price reshuffle for existing iPhones in India. As seen every year, older models are expected to be more cheap, while some will be retired to make way for the new lineup.

Once the iPhone 17 series begins, Apple is likely to cut the prices of the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 15 series by about Rs 10,000. The step follows the same pattern that the company adopted last year, when the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 were equally cut after entering the market in the iPhone 16 series. Strategy helps buyers to clarify the old inventory, giving buyers a chance to own iPhones at relatively low prices.

The biggest drops can be seen on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13, which are already old models and may be even more cheaper in the coming weeks. While Apple has not yet made anything official, the company traditionally announces a revised pricing for its existing models, the new iPhones soon after hitting the shelves.

In addition to price cuts, Apple also turns off some models every year. The Pro versions of the previous generation are usually the first to go. For example, when the iPhone 16 lineup was launched, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max were discontinued. After this trend, this year iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max can be retired after 9 September. The move is seen as a way to push customers who want a pro-level performance and the latest series features, while officially having only standard models from the older generations available.

Currently, the iPhone 16 starts from Rs 79,900, while the iPhone 16 Plus is priced at Rs 89,900. The high-end iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are listed for Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 1,44,900 respectively. After the launch of the iPhone 17, Apple is expected to continue selling the iPhone 16E, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Plus through its official channels, taking out the pro model.

However, the closed phones are not completely missing. They are available on the sale of third-party platforms such as Flipkart, Amazon and Vijay, until the existing stocks are sold. In fact, retail vendors often combine the official value of Apple with their own bank offers or exchange deals, making the discounts even more attractive for buyers.

Right now to plan to buy an iPhone, waiting for a few weeks can be a clever option. The iPhone 17 launch will not only bring new models, but will also trigger price improvements in old iPhones, which will give customers more options based on their budget.
