According to a report by Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on new AirPods with an in-built camera module. These AirPods are said to go into mass production by 2026, which basically means in a little over 1.5 years.

The new AirPods will reportedly include an infrared camera, similar to the technology used in Face ID on the iPhone and iPad. The move is in line with Apple’s broader strategy to integrate advanced features across its product ecosystem, particularly with its Vision Pro and upcoming Apple Vision headsets.

Kuo says these camera-equipped AirPods are designed to improve the user experience of spatial audio and strengthen Apple’s entry into spatial computing. For example, when paired with the Vision Pro headset, users will enjoy improved spatial audio, where the direction of sound dynamically adjusts as they turn their head. Additionally, the infrared capabilities of these AirPods are expected to enable new interactions through in-air gesture controls, potentially changing the way users interact with their device.

In terms of production logistics, Foxconn has been identified as the key supplier for the new IR camera modules, reports 9to5Mac. With an estimated annual capacity of 18-20 million units, Foxconn is said to support Apple’s ambitious production targets. This development builds on previous reports from Bloomberg, which initially indicated Apple’s explorations into wearable form factors beyond AirPods, including smartglasses and smart rings, as well as future iterations of the Apple Watch.

In other wearables-related news, the Apple Watch 10 is said to feature blood pressure monitoring. The news is reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This could be a big deal as it means you’ll be able to keep track of your blood pressure right from your wrist. While we’re still waiting for all the details, it shows that Apple is really serious about making the Apple Watch more than just a fancy gadget.

The Series 10 might not give you accurate blood pressure readings initially. Instead, it might help you track changes in your blood pressure over time. But here’s the thing – this could be the start of something bigger. Apple could use this as a stepping stone to make blood pressure monitoring even better in future models. This is all part of Apple’s plan to make the Apple Watch a very useful device for tracking your health.
