Vidya Balan called Parineta the beginning of her dream because it returns to theaters after 20 years
Vidya Balan’s first film ‘Parineeta’ will be released again on its 20th anniversary. Next to him, the actor called it his “Dream Debut”.

Vidya Balan is again watching the film that changed the course of her life. Twenty years after starting their big screen with ‘Parineeta’ (2005), the actor has been celebrating milestones with film re-cases in select cinemas across India since August 29, 2025.
The 1914 novel of the Pradeep Sarkar and a 1914 novel by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay, which starred Vidya with Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan. Balan continued, “Where you play a tourmer role in your first film? This is Sharat Chandra Chatterjee’s novel; It is Vinod Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Rekha Ji and Pradeep Sarkar, which was the belief for me at the time when I don’t know that I do not do everything.”

Looking back, the actor recalled the heavenly government’s style of working carefully. He said, “He used to do every shot storyboard, and I saw the storyboard of the entire film before starting shooting. When you watch the film, it gets fascinated. I look at myself, and I like, ‘Oh wow! Who is that?’ He is a grandfather for you.
On its original release, ‘Parineeta’ was praised, its provocative story, for the bright performance of timeless music and learning. The film strongly established Vidya as a talent, to win both National and Filmfare Awards.
The 8K restored edition of ‘Parineeta’ will be displayed in selected PVR Inox cinemas across India for a week starting from August 29, 2025.
