Stomach issues, diarrhea increase this monsoon: Here is mentioned how to make safely at home
Diarrhea and intestine infection has increased during the monsoon season, especially in children under five. Timely use of ORS can prevent dehydration.

The monsoon season acts as a correct precursor to waterborne infection, diarrhea and intestine related diseases. While seasonal flu cases, fever, sneezing, flowing nose and cough, are spikes in outpatient departments (OPDs), many people are also reported to have intestinal issues and diarrhea, usually caused by viruses from contaminated food.
In children, especially in people under the age of five, diarrhea can be very dangerous very quickly if dehydration is not addressed in time.
According to the World Health Organization, diarrhea is the third major cause of death in children under five. In this case, reinstatement becomes paramount to avoid losing the essential electrolytes and salts required from the body.
Bangalore -based pediatrician Dr. “When a child is suffering from diarrhea or vomiting, the body loses large amounts of water and essential salts,” Kanchana Devi M told indivation.
The good news is that the lightest to moderate cases of dehydration can be effectively managed at home with oral regeneration solutions (ORS). ORS does not mean to prevent diarrhea, but it works by filling the lost fluid and salts so that the body can recover.
“This is a simple and proven therapy that can save life. Glucose and electrolytes in ORS help the body absorb water more efficiently,” Dr. Tells Kanchana.
How to make Ors at home
If commercial ORS packets are not available, you can easily prepare it at home using basic kitchen materials. all you need is:
- 1 liter clean drinking water
- 6 teaspoons sugar (about 30 grams)
- One and a half teaspoon salt (about 2.5 grams)
phase:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and take 1 liter safe drinking water in a clean container.
- Add six level spoon sugar.
- Add half a teaspoon of salt. (Avoid adding more salt – it can be harmful.)
- Stir well until the sugar and salt are completely dissolved.
“It is a homemade ORS effective, inexpensive and life-guard. It can be given to both children and adults. But it is important to follow accurate measurements, and always throw any remaining solutions after 24 hours,” Dr. Says Kanchana.
While ORS works well for dehydration, parents will also have to look for warning signals. If the child is unable to drink, vomiting continues, stool has blood, or shows excessive fatigue, medical aid should be sought immediately.
