In short

  • Obesity rate in India is growing rapidly, third ranking globally
  • Prime Minister Modi suggested
  • One tablespoon oil contains about 120 calories that quickly adds

The rate of obesity has increased in recent years, with a lancet study at the beginning of this year, on which the condition is spreading around the world, has been warned. The study has predicted that by 2050, more than one third of India’s population will be classified as obesity.

Addressing the issue in his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indians to take small but meaningful steps for better health. His suggestions had a call to buy at least 10% less cooking oil and use 10% less oil in daily meals.

“When I talk about fitness, I have a concern that I need to highlight. Obesity is becoming a big public health problem for India. It is estimated that one of at least three three people will be fat. We will get rid of obesity. So I suggested that each family decided to buy 10% less oil, 10% less oil, and participate against Obesity.

Prime Minister Modi’s suggestion essentially promotes a gradual reduction in daily calorie intake. Oil, being excessive calorie-dense, is an easy starting point. Just one tablespoon (about 15 ml) contains about 120 calories.

These calories are not always clear, but they quickly add. Use of oil can create a difference over time – up to 10% – without changing the amount of food. For example, if a person usually uses three tablespoons of oil a day, decreasing than 10% means consuming about 36 less calories per day. While this number may seem small, such a decrease can cause continuous, noticeable weight loss in months or years.

India now ranked third in the world for the highest number of maximum weight and thick individuals after the United States and China.

This approach does not compromise on satisfaction, which means that people are less likely to feel deprived of food or overcamping. Reducing the use of oil also reduces the amount of additional dietary fat which can easily be stored as body fat, and encourages more brain cooking habits, which makes people come to know about the calories hidden in other ingredients.

In short, it does not have a rigid diet change or a major taste sacrifice, simply a subtle change that gradually chips away from additional calorie intake.

Health experts often say that such small, continuous adjustments, better food options and active lifestyle, can make a meaningful dent in India’s growing obesity crisis, which is promoted by the introduction of lifestyle shift and convenience ultra-based foods.
