YouTube is a platform that users visit for entertainment as well as information. However, one aspect of the experience that users usually dislike is the interruption by ads. To avoid these ads, YouTube users have the option of subscribing to YouTube Premium, a subscription service that offers ad-free viewing and other features. In India, the subscription prices are Rs 399 for three months, Rs 129 for one month, and Rs 1,290 for twelve months. These prices vary globally, with some countries having cheaper rates and others more expensive. And now, YouTube is planning to add more plans for its YouTube Premium subscribers.

In a recent community post, YouTube announced that they are developing new YouTube Premium membership plans. A YouTube team member named Hazel wrote, “We’re committed to bringing members more plan options by expanding our existing offerings to more regions, as well as introducing new plans and exploring ways for you to share your benefits with friends in the future.” While the post announced that more premium plans are in the works, it did not provide details about the new plans or shared benefits.

YouTube is also rolling out new features for Premium subscribers, as mentioned in the same community post as well as a separate blog post. For instance, the AI-powered “Jump Ahead” feature already available on Android will soon be launched on iOS. Additionally, Android users will be able to watch YouTube Shorts in picture-in-picture mode, a feature already available on TikTok.

“Get ready to multitask like a pro with our new picture-in-picture feature for YouTube Shorts. On Android devices, you can watch your favorite Shorts while browsing other apps or checking messages. It’s perfect for uninterrupted entertainment. Dive into endless fun with YouTube Shorts, now more flexible than ever,” the company wrote in a blog post.

Additionally, Premium subscribers will also get access to experimental features, such as automatically downloading batches of Shorts for offline viewing, a conversational AI assistant, and a redesigned watch page on desktop.

Relatedly, YouTube recently took action against users who purchased premium subscriptions using VPNs and changed their location to countries with cheaper rates.

Users on Reddit reported that their subscriptions were automatically canceled, and upon contacting YouTube support, they were told that their subscriptions were canceled due to them “moving to another location.” This action also sparked discussion and disappointment among users who were using this method to save money.
