The monsoon triggers brain infection with tapeworm, causing recovery, headache

There has been a sharp increase in cases of neurosclerosis due to tapeworm infection in the brain due to heavy monsoon rains in Mumbai.

Strokes that are not fatal can reduce prolonged disability, poor mental health and quality of life

In short

  • Poor hygiene and water contamination increase neuroscurosis risk
  • Neurosysticerosis has seizures, headaches and severe brain issues
  • Doctors recommend strict hygiene, safe food and clean water during monsoon

Since heavy monsoon rains are flooded in Mumbai, doctors are warning of a rapid increase in life-threatening brain infections due to tapeworm called neurocysticosis. They say that the infection is becoming more common during this season, due to poor hygiene, food contamination and waterborne spread during this season.

Neuroscurosis is a severe parasitic infection that is to swallow tapworm eggs, often through contaminated food or water. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Disease Control and Prevention Center (CDC), the situation is to be stopped, yet thousands continue to affect, especially in tropical countries like India.

“Different factors, such as poor hygiene and even water contamination, cause increase in cases. In addition, flood tapworm is also to spread eggs more easily, the possibility of infection increases,” Dr. Pankaj Aggarwal, Glenainagles Hospital, Parel, head of neurology, India Topodayan told.

The infection begins with a normal intestinal tapworm (tannia soolium), which is often contracted through undercurrent meat or poor hygiene. But if left untreated, it can develop in cystrichrosis, where larvae form ulcers in body tissue. The most dangerous form is neurosclerosis, when these cysts enter the brain.

“There is a recovery, headache, and even vomiting or dizziness with neuroscurosis that can become a matter of concern. Other symptoms can occur problems, memory issues, or even paralysis, where the ulcers are located in the brain. Pay attention to time after paying attention to the symptoms.”

This situation is one of the major causes of seizures worldwide, especially in low and medium-or-I countries. Symptoms may not appear immediately, but when they do, seizures are the most common, about 70% of symptomatic cases have been reported.

The seizures are caused by the inflammatory reaction and pressure created by the ulcers in the brain tissue, also known as parenchymel neuroscurosis.

In some cases, calcified ulcers left untreated, giving rise to chronic epilepsy. Other signs include headaches, stroke -like symptoms, mood changes and constant decline in memory or movement.

To confirm the infection, doctors rely on MRI or CT scan.

Dr. Aggarwal said, “An MRI or CT scan will be done to prevent prolonged brain damage and the symptoms will be managed immediately with the help of a specialist.”

Once diagnosed, treatment usually involves antipercritic drugs with corticosteroids to reduce inflammation in the brain. Anti-hospitalptic medicines can also be prescribed to patients with seized.

Dr. Aggarwal said, “The line of treatment will be decided by the treatment doctor.” “People who maintain poor hygiene and hygiene are insecure. Therefore, practice good hygiene and focus on safe food, clean water and duutoring during monsoon.”

Doctors urge the public to be vigilant during the rainy season. Wash the vegetables thoroughly, avoid street food, drink clean or boiled water, and especially ensure good hand hygiene before eating or cooking. These small steps can prevent a condition that can otherwise result in severe brain complications.
