Microsoft has launched a new version of its surface laptop 7, and this time, it comes with the underlying 5G support. But there is a catch – this version, officially called Microsoft Surface Laptop 5G, is aimed at business customers only. Therefore, if you are a regular buyer who is looking to upgrade your laptop with mobile connectivity, then you are out of luck – at least for now. Surface laptop starts at a standing price of $ 1,799.99 (about Rs 1,55,500) in 5G US, and is part of Microsoft’s growing Copilot+ PC line-up for enterprise users. At that price you get a promise of 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD storage, and fasting with a dedicated Copilot key for AI-operated features, always promise.

Surface laptop 5G is built around a 13.8 -inch pixels flow touchscreen, with a sharp 2,304 x 1,536 resolution and 120Hz refresh rates. It supports the Dolby Vision IQ, and for durability, the performance is preserved by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Under the hood, the laptop runs on the core Ultra 5 Series 2 processor of Intel, which is combined with Intel Arc Graphics. There is also a dedicated AI boost NPU (nervous processing unit), which Microsoft says that 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS) can handle. This video calls the muscles required for acts such as real-time transcription, image processing and background blot-all are locally performed on the device.

Business buyers can also opt for a high-end version with 32GB RAM, priced at $ 2,099.99 (about Rs 1,81,000). Microsoft says that the laptop was designed with 5G from the ground, rather than adding a modem to a modem. Surface Laptop 5G has six strategically placed antennas facilities that are compatible with your surroundings to ensure strong and stable connections, whether you are indoors, working on this step, or working from a distance. It supports both nano SIM and ESIM for global connectivity, and can also double as mobile hotspots.

The machine weighs less than 1.4 kg, which makes it lighter enough to move around without any hassle. Battery life has been rated for 20 hours for video playback or 12 hours of active web use, thanks to the 54Wh battery. Connectivity options are also solid-Y-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, and of course, 5g. Port selection includes two USB 4.0 Type-C port (with Thunderbolt 4), a USB Type-A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Microsoft owned surface connect port.

Expected for business-focused machines, is a large part of the safety offering. You get Windows Hello, TPM 2.0 support, Microsoft Pluton Security Chip, Betalocker Encryption and even an alternative smart card reader for face unlock. The laptop runs on Windows 11 Pro, and since it is part of the Copilot+ PC range, the AI tool is a dedicated Copilot key to quickly access.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 5G will be available in the US starting from August 26 and comes in two colors – Black and Platinum. Regular users will have to wait and see if the consumer version becomes available later.
