Amitabh Bachchan paid tribute to Chandra Barot, director of his ‘Don’. Veteran filmmaker, 1978 Panth Classic was best remembered for Heling, died in Mumbai at the age of 86 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. That Dr. Guru Nanak was undergoing treatment at the hospital under Manish Shetty’s care. This news was confirmed by his wife Deepa Barot.

Barot’s passing has left a deep void in the Indian film industry, especially among those who knew him just beyond his cinematic heritage. The first people to express grief were Amitabh Bachchan, who gave one of his most prestigious performances under Barot’s direction in ‘Don’.

On his personal blog, Bachchan wrote, “Dear dear friend and my director of my don – Chandra Barot died this morning. It is difficult to harm words … We worked together, yes, but he was more family friend than someone else. I can only pray (prayer emoji) (SIC).”

Barot’s journey in cinema began as an assistant to Manoj Kumar, but it showed ‘Don -Bachan in a dual role with Zeenat Aman – which made her name in Bollywood’s history. The film’s taut story, unforgettable dialogue, and chartbuster Soundtrack brought it to the classic position, inspired several remakes in decades.

Although he only directed a handful of films, Barot’s unique contribution with ‘Don’ echoes. His creative vision and nature for the mainstream story have earned him a permanent place in the hall of fame of Indian cinema.
