In 2025, Tamil Cinema is watching a successful string of hits with films like Margan, DNA, eleven and more. With making such enterprises big at the domestic box office, the immediate question is, are we looking at a new trend in Tamil cinema?
Just earlier this year, big budget undertakings such as Vidamuyaraki, Retro and Thug Life were a major dud at the box office. But, if you think that is the same with all films, then you are wrong. Content-operated films have managed to succeed by impressing the audience. So, material defects, can we conclude?
Keeping these details in mind, most of the films were the search thriller, which was made on a relatively low budget. Over the years, we have seen various trends in Tamil cinema, and it appears that these thriller is now in fashion.
Is investigative thriller Tamil cinema has a new trend?
The investigative thriller is mostly well -written ventures in Tamil cinema, making it an interesting style for the audience. The quality of such films is that they manage the audience sticking to screen and seats (quite literal). Thriller is considered evergreen even after years of release.
Unlike whodunits or mystery films, thriller has a recall value that makes them an experience for Peno. The inherent facts of being able to repeat such films make it possible to repeat the audience in theaters, essential for single-screen.
If we analyze the old trends in Tamil cinema, we can easily see a pattern where producers spent money on a particular style for an extended period. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, devotional films were a major hit with experienced and debut directors.
Later, we saw a spike in horror or even horror comedy, yet spewed another trend. Now, it seems that there will be a trusted form of investment in films.
Recently, Vijay Antony starrer Margan hit a big screen and is being loved by the audience. Despite being a Rome-Com’s like the love marriage as a clash release, high footfalls are leading to the crime thriller venture.
The film of Tamil language, written, directed and edited by Leo John Paul, has not only a box office success in the first film under its direction, but has seriously appreciated for performance and writing.

Interestingly, the cost of financing a investigative thriller such as Margan has been estimated to have a low budget unlike large star undertakings. Instead of taking a-list actor, the new trend in cinema trusts actors who are relatively cheap for employment.
Since production costs are also limited, most thriller is shot at location, causing low dependence on visual effects.
This is not only exclusive for Vijay Antony starrer, but recently hits like Atharva Murali and Nimisha Sojyan starrer DNA also witnessed the same incident.
In addition, the Naveen Chandra starrer XI, shot together in Tamil and Telugu, is a cult classic hit after the OTT release. While the film was criticized during the dramatic run, it managed to achieve great success after digital streaming started on Amazon Prime Video.

Similarly, Sibi Satyaraj starrer saw the same effect on release even ten hours, making it more and more clear how the audience is enjoying it.
How can filmmakers use this trend effectively?
Although it can be debated whether such a trend exists, it should be seen as an optimal opportunity for filmmakers. Style -like style -like style depends on the accuracy of the author’s ability to craft effective stories to a large extent.
If a strong screenplay is financed by an investor, a successful film can be made, even if unpopular actors are part of it. Finally, in a thriller, the plot and the statement become central figures rather than the actor.
With the freedom to get away based on large names, it shows the development of the audience in accepting the successful tendency content.
In a realm where people have easy access to world cinema, the quality strip has increased, the audience is expected to be inspired with the inventor story.
As each passing generation is more fond of accepting high quality materials, films will not manage to satisfy them or all. In this prediction, filmmakers will have to get out of their comfort field and go out.
Interestingly, in a recent post by Insider Sridhar Pillai, it is reported that about 20 films in Tamil cinema are being made in style with a small budget.
Now, how long this style continues and at what point it reaches saturation.
