A new study suggests that AI equipment such as Chatgpt can gradually affect our ability to learn and quickly analyze information. This is because they essentially allow humans to do some tasks without using their brain power or thinking.

In short

  • Studies show that students who used AI to write essays
  • Essays written using Chatgpt were found lack of original idea
  • Research concluded that AI can damage overlapping cognitive development

Chatgpt is making students dumb! Or instead, using them less. Especially among the students, a new study by the media labs of the MIT found that using common AI devices such as chatgpt to educational work and learning can actually reduce people’s important thinking and cognitive connectivity over time to educational work and learning.

During this study, researchers saw 54 participants from the age of 18 to 39 from the Boston region, and divided them into three groups. Each group of students was then asked to write a set-style essay using OpenAI’s chat, Google Search, or no digital assistance. During this process, the researchers monitored brain activity among users through electroncephalography (EEG), scanning 32 different brain areas to evaluate cognitive connectivity during writing.

The conclusions were related. The group of students using Chatgpt showed the lowest level of brain activity. According to the study, these students “continuously reduced nerve, linguistic and behavioral levels.” In fact, the study found that during many essays, many Chatgpt users become rapidly inactive, often resort to mimicing and pasting the text from AI chatboat reactions, rather than reflecting or reflecting materials to suit their own ideas.

Meanwhile, students who worked without any digital tools show the highest brain activity, especially in areas associated with creativity, memory and cementic processing. One of the authors of the research paper, Natalia Kosomiana, “the work was carried out, and you can say that it was efficient and convenient.” “But as we show in paper, you basically do not integrate it into your memory network.”

Long -term impact suspect

Researchers concluded that while AI can help in quick productivity of students, it can also affect long -term learning and brain development. Meanwhile, the essay-writing group that did not use any equipment reported a high level of satisfaction and ownership at its work. In this group, EEG Reading showed more nerve connectivity in alpha, thea, and delta frequency bands, areas that are often associated with deep thinking and creative thoughts.

Interestingly, the group using Google search showed relatively high levels of brain engagement, suggesting that traditional internet browsing still stimulates active thought processes. The difference further shows how the AI users rely completely on chatbot reactions for information rather than using a serious thinking or search engine.

To understand and measure retention and understanding, researchers also asked students to re -write their essay. And this time the equipment was swapped. Students who used the first chat were now asked to write without help, and their brain -using group was asked to use AI.

The results of this swapping further strengthened the previous conclusions. Users who had trusted Chatgpt struggled to remember their original essays and showed weak cognitive re -involvement. Meanwhile, the group which was initially written without an online tool, increased nerve activity when using chat. This discovery further confirms that AI equipment can be helpful in learning, but only when humans themselves are used after fulfilling basic thinking.
