Housefull 5, the newest chapter in the popular comedy franchise, has completed its first week at the box office. The film starring Akshay Kumar has collected a gross of Rs 181 crore worldwide in seven days. In India, it has earned Rs 114.90 crore, in which Rs 138 crore has been translated. Internationally, the film has grossed a 5 million USD, or Rs 43 crore, in its tally. While these numbers are civilized, the film’s tendency increases concerns. There is a need to make a gross hit of Rs 275 crore worldwide for its large scale budget and Bricavevan.
The film opened well over the weekend. Franchise fans changed to good numbers, although the weekend footfalls were slightly lower than the previous houseful films. Internationally, Housefull 5 performed even better, crowded in markets such as UK, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Gulf countries. Star-staded cast, including Ritish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan and others, made the film a solid push.
However, the day of the week is telling a different story. A good hold was seen on Monday and Tuesday, but by Wednesday the collection began to pay attention. The last two days of the week were especially difficult, struggling to maintain pace with the film. This trend below is a red flag. For a film with a big-bound film like Housefull 5, a stable run is important. The film needs to be strongly bounced back to its second weekend to be on the track. Continuous collections will decide their fate over the next few weeks.
The budget of the film is also a major talk. Housefull 5 is one of the most expensive comedy in Bollywood. Non-drainage deals, including satellites, digital and music rights, have provided some relief. Nevertheless, it will not be enough to break even for a favorable decision. The film should be gross around Rs 275 crore worldwide, just to cover its cost. After the week with Rs 181 crore in the bank, it is half there. But slow trend can make the remaining journey difficult.
There is no doubt that Housefull 5 has received initial traction which many films do not get these days. The brand value of the franchise, combined with its comic appeal, has worked in its favor. Nevertheless, mixed word-mouth can affect its working day performance. To emerge as a success, the film needs a big jump in a collection starting from Friday. If it can repeat the magic of the second weekend of the previous houseful films, and later it can be stable, a respectable final total is possible.
