The film grossed US$282.8 million in the US alone, bringing its global gross to US$1.27 million in its 26-day theatrical run. With such an impressive performance, Zootopia 2 has entered the top 25 highest-grossing films of all time at the worldwide box office, surpassing Beauty and the Beast’s US$1.27 billion gross. It emerged as the sixth highest-grossing animated film of all time globally, surpassing Minions’ US$1.16 billion and Incredibles 2’s US$1.24 billion.
Based on current trends, the film will surpass the lifetime earnings of Frozen (USD 1.31 billion) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie (USD 1.36 billion) by next weekend, and take the fourth spot among the biggest animated grossers of all time.
Zootopia 2, directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, is likely to continue gaining popularity going forward, despite the release of Avatar 3. Its full theatrical gross is expected to be between US$1.5 million to US$1.7 million at the worldwide box office. It will be interesting to see if Zootopia 2 delivers on a higher level than Avatar 3.
