Zeeshan Ayyub talks about his interfaith marriage with Rasika Agashe, saying that it feels natural as he grew up with a Hindu mother and Muslim father.
Actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub has opened up about his interfaith marriage with theater actress Rasika Agashe, saying it felt natural to him as he grew up in a home with a Hindu mother and a Muslim father. Reflecting on love, trust and companionship, the actor said it was never difficult to adjust, as his upbringing had already taught him to accept differences easily.
Speaking about getting married soon after finishing theater school, Zeeshan joked, “We had a child marriage.” In a recent conversation, the actor talked about his personal life and how his interfaith background shaped his outlook on relationships. While his mother is a Brahmin Hindu and his father is a Muslim, Zeeshan said that religion has never been a hindrance in his life or marriage.
talking to Shubhankar MishraZeeshan recalls marrying Rasika soon after graduating from the National School of Drama. He said, “We got married soon after I passed NSD. This was my first successful love story. I thought this is the first time a girl has said yes to me, let alone married her before she understood me completely.”
Addressing whether religious differences ever affected their relationship, Zeeshan revealed that love and shared interests made the transition seamless. “Love takes care of everything. It was not difficult. When it came to cultural differences, it was easy for me because my mother is a Hindu Brahmin and since childhood, we used to sit in Diwali puja and eat only vegetarian food when I went to my mother’s, but when I went to my father, we used to eat non-vegetarian. So religion was not a problem, the main difference was cultural, but the one thing that brought us together was art because we both were theater enthusiasts.”
The actor emphasized that friendship is the core of their bond. He said, “We became friends first and there was no proposal between us. After we fell out we realized that we wanted to spend more time together and that’s why we got married.”
Describing Rasika as his anchor, Zeeshan said, “She has become my anchor. It feels like now I can go and explore my career and do whatever I want in my life, but in my heart, I know she is at home. That gives you a different strength.”
Responding to other celebrities’ recent comments on marriage and relationships, Zeeshan offered a down-to-earth perspective. He said, “Everyone has their own experiences. I’m just with my wife and I don’t need to lie at all. She’s my safe place.”
When considering how to maintain long-term relationships, Zeeshan emphasizes the importance of emotional connection over surface-level attraction. “It also depends on how you fell in love. If you have lost yourself in love and have found a new person, who is a combination of you and your partner, then you will be happy but if you are deeply attached, that is not the case,” she concluded, underscoring the role of understanding and companionship in lasting partnerships.
