On Monday, 16 December 2024, the world lost the famous tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain. The 73-year-old acclaimed artist was being treated for serious heart issues when he died in San Francisco. Following the news, many Bollywood celebrities including Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Hansal Mehta, Zoya Akhtar and others took to social media to condole the demise of the legendary musician.
As soon as the news of Zakir Hussain’s death spread, Akshay Kumar shared a picture of the maestro on his social media. He wrote, “Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Ustad Zakir Hussain Saab. He was truly a treasure to the musical heritage of our country. Om Shanti.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan also paid tribute to the legendary musician with an emotional image of herself with Zakir Hussain and her father Randhir Kapoor.
Director Hansal Mehta bid a final farewell to the tabla player on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “The player who gave many sleepless nights at Hindustani classical music concerts. The man who knew how to connect with the audience through his artistry. The master who made tabla sexy. Goodbye Ustad Zakir Hussain.”
Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar also shared her grief by posting a monochrome image of Zakir Hussain on Instagram with the caption, “Maestro (red heart emoji) #therewillneverbeanotheryou #thankyouforthemusic #zakirhusain #maestro #nationaltreasure #RIP @zakirhq9.”
Actress Nimrat Kaur remembers the last time she saw Ustad Zakir Hussain perform live at the Prithvi Theater earlier this year. He shared, “On February 28, 24, when I last saw Ustad Zakir Hussain live at Prithvi Theatre, I remember my heart skipping a beat at the sheer impeccable brilliance of his talent. His international superstardom and the pinnacle of his achievements will always be there to inspire and energize us.”
He further added, “As a human being, it is engraved in my heart as a life goal to remain the most humble, kind and generous throughout my incomparable life journey. Your kind eyes and mysterious personality will live on for generations… Ustad ji, may your soul rest in peace. There will never be another.”
The 73-year-old musician was suffering from blood pressure problem. As a result, his family admitted him to a reputed hospital for treatment of serious health problems. Sadly, despite the efforts of the medical team and the prayers of his millions of fans, the artist passed away.
