YouTube is reportedly testing a new membership option that allows two users to share a single premium or music premium scheme – and India is one of the few countries selected for this test. If you and someone in your house are thinking about receiving a premium, but the family plan is found a little bit, then it can be a two-person combo sweet place. The purpose of the scheme is to offer better value by keeping accounts separate, and it is now live for select users in India, France, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The premium two-person scheme starts at Rs 219 per month in India, while the music premium version costs Rs 149.
As MoneycontrolBoth users must be at least 13 years old, eat Google, and belong to the same Google family group. Although it is not the same as a complete family plan (which costs Rs 299 per month and allows five members), it offers a cheap option for two people living together-they are couples, siblings, or flatmates.

YouTube has confirmed the experiment, saying that it is searching for new ways to provide more value and flexibility for customers. “We are experimenting with new ways to provide more flexibility and price to our YouTube premium customers, including a two-individual premium plan option,” a spokesperson told Moneycontrol.
The current personal premium scheme costs Rs 149 per month in India, while the price of students and family schemes is Rs 89 and Rs 299 respectively. On the music premium side, individual plans are Rs 119, the family plan is Rs 179, and the student plan is Rs 59 per month.
The new two-person model can compete directly with spotify duo, which also provides a joint subscription for two users under a plan. It can appeal to cost-conscious users who still want a premium experience without paying for a full family level.
In recent months, YouTube has made it clear that it is serious about increasing its membership base. Google increased the price of YouTube premium in India last August, which increased by 12 percent to 58 percent based on the plan. The forum also rolled out premium lights in markets such as the US, Germany and Australia-this version removes advertisements, but does not offer downloads or backgrounds, and music-related materials still include advertisements.
By March 2025, YouTube had crossed 125 million customers in premium and music premium services globally. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google’s original company alphabet, noted during the April 2025 earnings call that membership is now a large part of their business. Overall, the alphabet has over 270 million payment memberships in services such as YouTube and Google One.
