Joe Goldberg, the psychopathic killer who uses romance to hide his dark side, is back with a new identity and a new target in a teaser trailer released by Netflix on January 16. The one minute and fourteen second clip begins with Goldberg (Penn Badgley) repeating his iconic dialogue – Hello, you.
In the teaser he says, “Here we are together again, where it all began,” while a montage of his conversations with his “loves” plays in the background, including Beck (Elizabeth Lail), Love Quinn. (Victoria Pedretti) and his latest victim, Marianne (Tati Gabrielle).
After overcoming the “complications” of his love life, Goldberg claims he has finally gotten to where he needed to be. “The one thing, the one thing that’s always been there for me, is you,” he says, as the camera pans to the glass prison where he keeps people who know what’s behind his mask. Season 5 is going to be the final and “killer” season of the thriller series. Over the past four seasons, fans have watched the main character go on the run and start a new life after committing a gruesome crime. So, many viewers are waiting for poetic justice, but the series is known for its last-minute twists.
According to the official synopsis, this season “follows Joe Goldberg’s return to New York City, where he tries to build a happy life with his new partner, Kate Galvin.” However, his past and dark desires jeopardize his plans.
In addition to playing the lead role, Badgley is also one of several executive producers of the show. Michael Foley and Justin Low will serve as showrunners for the final season. In addition to the Gossip Girl alum, the cast includes Charlotte Ritchie, Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp and Griffin Matthews.
