Xiaomi recently launched a series of mid-budget devices in India, including the Redmi Note 14 series, Redmi Buds 6, and Xiaomi Sound outdoor speaker. We have reviewed the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ and Redmi Buds 6. We’ve also been testing the Xiaomi speaker and it’s a fun device. At Rs 3,499, the speakers look good, they’re portable, they sound great and of course, they’re priced great. Yes, the speaker has some issues, but they are small things that can’t be ignored for most people. Let’s find out in details.
Xiaomi Sound Outdoor Speaker: Good Points
The Xiaomi Sound Outdoor Speaker is a complete nod in this price segment. It is equipped with 30W drivers with dual subwoofers. Weighing 597 grams, the device is lightweight and easily portable. The speaker is covered with a grill structure that helps in holding the device easily. Additionally, it also has an in-built loop to make it easy to carry. Visually, the design of Xiaomi Sound Outdoor is similar to Sony ULT Field 1, which is priced at Rs 16,990. The Xiaomi speaker is cylindrical and sleek – a design that immediately catches the eye. We received the black version, but it’s also available in blue and red.
While the other colors have a monochromatic pattern, this one has an orange strap for contrast. The strap runs along the back of the device like a spine and has three buttons: power, Bluetooth, and linking. All these buttons require a long press to function. For example, you have to long press the power button for 3 seconds to turn the speaker on or off. The same applies for Bluetooth settings. There are three additional buttons placed on the speaker mesh that are dedicated to play/pause, volume up and down. The buttons are clicky and give good haptic feedback.
As for durability, the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor comes with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Overall, Xiaomi’s latest speaker offers a solid, well-built design that stands out in both form and function.
But that’s not the best part of it. The best part is its “big speaker energy”.
For its size and price, the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor Speaker is capable of filling small to medium-sized rooms well. It provides clear and consistent sound quality. The bass delivers a strong punch without overpowering the mids and highs, while maintaining a well-balanced sound profile. This ensures that the audio output remains clear and detailed across a wide range of different frequencies and music genres.
Priced at Rs 3,499, it is equipped with dual large subwoofer radiators on either side for fuller and richer bass sound. Whether you’re listening to bass-heavy tracks or more vocal-focused tunes, the sound is dynamic and full, with no one element dominating.
The speaker is also equipped with Bluetooth 5.3, which provides stable connection. Connecting to Xiaomi Sound outdoor speakers is very easy. Additionally, the speaker includes a 3.5mm audio jack, providing the flexibility for wired connections, further increasing its versatility.
Talking about battery life, this speaker does a good job. With a full charge and the volume set between 80-90 percent, the speaker offers up to 10 hours of playback, making it ideal for most scenarios like parties, day outs or even an entire workday. I took the Xiaomi Sound outdoor speaker to a party and it played music non-stop for 4 hours. During that time its battery had fallen only 20 percent.
Xiaomi Sound Outdoor Speaker: Things that could be better
As we mentioned above, the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor Speaker is great, but it has some drawbacks.
The speaker is missing LED indicators. Sure, this isn’t a groundbreaking feature, but it definitely adds more functionality to the design. And since we’re talking about what could be, some RGB lights on this would be a great addition. And no, at its price, it’s not outrageous to expect RGB lighting. The Boat Stone Spinx Pro has dynamic RGB lights and the speaker is priced at Rs 2,499.
The subjectively bigger drawback to the speaker is that it only connects via Bluetooth. There are no AUX or other connectivity options.
Xiaomi Sound Outdoor: should you buy it?
For fear of repeating myself for the third time, the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor isn’t perfect, but its list of pros is definitely longer than the cons. The speaker has a great design and sound quality, great battery life and it’s water resistant. With all this in mind, at Rs 3,499, the speaker comes highly recommended from us.
