Xiaomi has officially confirmed that its next premium flagship, Xiaomi 16 Ultra, is in works. This time, the company is not waiting for rumors or leaks to create the first trick. Lu Weibing, who is the president of Xiaomi, announced on Weibo that the new ultra-series phone is coming and promised that it would “new height of mobile imaging”. The teaser also confirmed that Xiaomi and Leica camera would continue their cooperation for tuning, just as they had earlier done for ultra-branded equipment.
This confirmation comes long before expectation. Typically, Xiaomi unveils its top level ultra smartphone a few months after the standard flagship series. However, this time, the brand is accelerating things. The famous Chinese Tipster Digital Chat Station has now suggested that Xiaomi 16 Ultra may come before its normal launch window. In fact, the tip indicates at a beginning for some time at the end of 2025. If this happens, Xiaomi Xiaomi 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Ultra models can plan to launch simultaneously, some company has not done before.
To keep things in context, Xiaomi 15 Ultra was introduced in China in February 2025. A month later, it was shown globally in MWC 2025 in Barcelona and then brought to India in March. The phone was launched in a single version with 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage, priced at Rs 1,09,999.
While Xiaomi has not officially disclosed 16 Ultra specifications, many leaks have already given us a good idea of what to expect. The focus with the ultra line as usual will be on the camera. 16 Ultra has been tipped to facilitate a 50-megapixel main sensor with a large size of 1 inch for better light capture. It measures a high-resolution of 1/1.28 inches with a high-resolution 200-megapixel periscope-style telephoto camera, offering strong zoom performance. Additionally, the 50-megapixel Sony Lyt600 sensor is also expected to be part of the rear camera system.
The upcoming phone is also asked to come up with a large 6.8 -inch Ltpo display that supports 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. This can be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset, which is expected to run several Android flagships at the end of this year and early next year.
Battery life can be another strong point. Reports claim that Xiaomi 16 may use a battery with a capacity between 7,000mAh and 7,500mAh in Ultra. If true, it will keep the phone ahead of the premium model when it comes to power backup. Fast charging support is also expected, which has a rumor of 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Although there is no official confirmation about when Xiaomi 16 Ultra will come to India, the initial teaser shows that the company is preparing for global push soon. For now, all eyes are on Xiaomi’s next step, as it seems to further strengthen its ultra lineup in premium flagship space.
