Elon Musk is considered a ‘cool’ billionaire. Musk is believed to bring this fun-loving attitude to his workplace as well, including his AI startup xAI. Now, an xAI employee has revealed that the tech billionaire offered a free Tesla Cybertruck for a 24-hour task.

Elon Musk’s public image is quite ‘fun’. The Tesla CEO often shares memes on his Platform However, as it turns out, Musk takes this approach in the workplace too and isn’t shy about making some fun bets. According to an XAI employee, the tech billionaire promised a free Tesla Cybertruck for a 24-hour task.

An XAI employee recalled one such scenario. Khan’s colleague Tyler bet against Musk when the team received a new batch of GPUs. The Tesla CEO made a simple condition – Tyler must receive training on the new GPU within 24 hours, and he will receive his brand new Cybertruck.
Suleiman Khan said, “Elon’s like, ‘Okay, if you can get training on these GPUs in 24 hours you’ll get a Cybertruck tonight.'”
Well, luckily for Tyler he managed to get everything in place before the deadline. Khan said that once the task was completed, Musk made good on his promise and gave the man a free Tesla Cybertruck. He added, “Yeah, he got it (Cybertruck). I see it from our lunch window.”
The Tesla Cybertruck is one of Elon Musk’s favorite vehicles made by his EV company. According to the Tesla website, the price of Cybertruck with all-wheel drive (AWD) starts at $79,900 (approximately Rs 72.5 lakh) in the US. However, prices of higher variants can cross $1,25,000 (approximately Rs 1.13 crore).
But what was the task?
Now, you might wonder, what was the task that Musk was willing to bet a whole new Tesla on?
Training run refers to the use of a GPU to run a machine learning (ML) model on a data set. This allows AI models to run on the power of the GPU rather than relying on the computer’s CPU. GPUs are much more powerful than CPUs and can provide much more processing power.
Running AI models on a GPU is a significant task for any AI firm, and thus, Elon Musk was willing to bet on a vehicle costing more than $80,000 to run the training on a GPU within a day.
There are billions of dollars worth of GPUs in AI servers, and as a result, NVIDIA’s market cap has seen rapid growth over the past year.
