Wuthering Heights is arguably the most exciting release of the month. This year in celebration of Valentine’s Day, it is going to be celebrated globally on 13th February. Directed by Emerald Fennell, the film is based on Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel of the same name, and stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Katherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, respectively. Revealing her thoughts on joining the project, the 28-year-old revealed how she finds its loose and modern interpretation exciting.
Speaking exclusively to Pinkvilla, the actor explained how it took a lot of time to play the role of Heathcliff, as he is familiar with the book like everyone else. "Wuthering Heights has been around for so long that I think we all have a sense of what the story is that we’ve seen or heard many times, but most of us don’t really know it, don’t know the text as well as we think. Hopefully, this film will rekindle the ideas others already have about Wuthering Heights, as it did for me." He says.

Jacob Elordi on choosing the role of Heathcliff as his next role
The love story of Heathcliff and Cathy is one that has been dissected and written about for a long time. So while portraying the former, Jacob Elordi has come with the mindset of being willing to accept all this and provide the same direction that was being portrayed in a fresh manner, while keeping the essence of the original alive. He shared his thoughts on joining the project and choosing the script, "I knew that with Emerald Fennell, it would not be the traditional character we know in our consciousness, but that Heathcliff would be interpreted through her lens, from her unique perspective. She knows the character and this story very well, and I was really interested in that interpretation. I believe in him as an artist and especially as a director, and I want to live in his cinematic world, however I can."

This interpretation from Emerald Fennell (Killing Eve, Saltburn), who scripted and directed the film, comes amid a lot of questions about turning it into something almost erotic. However, the actor himself is quite aware of this and this is what he expected when he stepped into this project. He is ready to extend full support to the filmmaker and says, "What Emerald captured in her script, and ultimately in the film, is the spirit of Emily Brontë, the spirit of Wuthering Heights, what is happening in the subtext of the book. She’s interpreting it through her own lens, through a modern lens, and that was exciting to me."
Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film will premiere across India on February 13, 2026.
