At the Made by Google event 2024, Google on Tuesday night launched its latest flagship earbuds, the Google Buds Pro 2. During the event, Google showed a detailed demo that showcased how the new-gen Buds Pro 2 is designed to deliver a better audio experience than its previous model, powered by the power of Gemini AI. Google’s latest Buds have a number of unique features. But the most striking feature was the demo of how users will use Gemini AI. In the launch video, Google gave us a glimpse of how the TWS earbuds can not only work as a hands-free audio device, but with the power of AI, become a companion we will need to “have a conversation” with.
Imagine wearing your earbuds and talking to no one else on a call, but the earbuds themselves. It might sound like a scene from a science-fiction movie, but for Google, this is something it has thought of for its Pixel Buds Pro 2 and its users. The tech giant, which has been pushing its AI features a lot, recently introduced a host of AI capabilities in its latest Pixel devices including the Pixel Buds Pro 2. With the help of Gemini AI, the new Pixel Buds can interact with users hands-free using its virtual assistant, even when their phone is locked.
So, if a user is walking on a busy street, traveling in the subway, or strolling around, they can easily interact with AI using the Pixel Buds Pro 2. They can ask the earbuds to talk about the latest emails, get directions, set a reminder, or even ask for a personalized playlist in the middle of a gym workout. No need to stop or pick up the phone – just talk to the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and tell it to do it. While these features might sound like a typical AI assistance feature, Google has also introduced Gemini Live in the buds to make things a little more futuristic. This feature will enable users to engage in extended, natural conversations with AI, making it feel like you have a personal assistant in your ear.
Talking about what powers all these features, at the core of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is Google’s Tensor A1 chip and integrated Gemini AI, which not only promises better audio performance and advanced AI capabilities but also improves noise cancellation. Google notes that the earbuds boast a 24 percent lighter and 27 percent smaller form factor, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit for long-term wear.
While the integration of AI is the highlight of the Pixel Buds Pro 2, they are packed with several other features as well. The earbuds offer twice the noise cancellation than their predecessor, backed by the Tensor A1 chip, which can adapt to the environment up to 3 million times per second.
Google has also improved the battery life, offering up to 8 hours of listening time on a single charge and an additional 30 hours from the charging case. Other notable features include improved call quality, spatial audio with head tracking, and easier device switching.
