Thalapathy Vijay is all set to begin work on his next film, tentatively titled Thalapathy 69. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film appears to be an action film with a political backdrop. However, does the film have any connection with the director’s shelved project with Kamal Haasan?

The newly announced film starring Thalapathy Vijay was officially released with a poster that shows a man holding a fire torch. The makers also captioned it, “The torchbearer of democracy is coming in October 2025.”

On the other hand, Kamal Haasan and H. Vinod’s project, earlier called KH233, also had a similar announcement video. The 37-second clip released at the time showed the veteran actor holding a burning torch with several followers standing around him.

The similarity between the two announcements has given rise to speculations as to whether H Vinoth has revived his shelved project and adapted it with Thalapathy Vijay instead of Kamal Haasan. However, it is unclear whether the two films are connected in any way, and it could just be a coincidence.

For those who don’t know, H. Vinod was already announced as the director of Kamal Haasan’s tentatively titled film KH233. There were reports that the actor was training for the role, but it was later reported that the project has been dropped.

The upcoming film starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead is said to be the superstar’s last film before he shifts his full focus to his political career. The tentative title of Thalapathy 69 marks Anirudh Ravichander’s 5th film with the actor, his last film before this being Leo.

Also, despite the official announcement, the cast of the film has not been revealed yet. There are rumours that Simran might reunite with Vijay on screen after many years, however this is still unconfirmed, with no official update provided yet.
