Longtime fans found it unfair that iCarly, starring Miranda Cosgrove, was revived a decade later, but was cancelled on a cliffhanger. The fan-favorite Nickelodeon sitcom had a successful run from 2007 to 2012 with the OG franchise producers later returning as a reboot in 2021.
The iCarly reboot aired for three seasons before Paramount+ unexpectedly removed it from its roster. Now, titular star Miranda Cosgrove has hinted at what’s likely to be an iCarly wrap-up movie that would attempt to salvage the hanging storyline.
Miranda Cosgrove hopes to make a movie out of iCarly
Miranda Cosgrove, 31, excitedly said the chances of an iCarly movie happening are high. She acknowledged fans may be left with many unanswered questions following the network’s decision to abruptly end the reboot in October 2023.
“I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen. So I’m excited, and I would love to finish the story,” the Emmy-nominated star told Variety on Friday, July 5.
Similarly, Cosgrove, who was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2022, reiterated her desire to film a wrap-up movie in another interview in May. She recalled her “great experience” of starring again as Carly Shay nearly a decade after the original series concluded in 2012.
“Maybe, hopefully, someday, we’ll still do it,” the actor told Entertainment Tonight at the time.
Fans were particularly curious about Carly’s mom, a rarely mentioned character who suddenly appeared in the Season 3 finale. Referring to that cliffhanger, Cosgrove shared, “I want to know who Carly’s mom is as much as (fans want to know). It seems like a lot of people were expecting to see that.”
Despite the reboot being a success, it is not known why the iCarly relaunch was cancelled after three seasons. The finale saw Carly marry her best friend, Freddie Benson, played by veteran Nathan Kress. In addition, the never-before-seen mother of Carly and her brother Spencer Shay also appeared, leaving viewers eager to see more.
Therefore, Cosgrove hopes that a potential iCarly movie might be able to explore all the loose ends from the 2021 reboot’s Season 3 finale.
Miranda Cosgrove talks about voicing a Despicable Me character
Aside from starring in iCarly, Miranda Cosgrove is also known for voicing the charming character Edith in the Despicable Me franchise. The former child star opened up about playing Margo, the eldest of supervillain Gru’s three adopted children.
In an interview with Wired, in which she answered the Internet’s most burning questions about herself, Cosgrove described in detail her experience playing the animated character for nearly two decades.
“I started these movies when I was 13 and I turn 31 tomorrow,” the star said of her return in Despicable Me 3, which premieres Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Playing Margo is a nostalgic experience for Cosgrove and reminds her of her younger self, now that she’s an adult and still voicing the character.
