It’s been 30 years since Will Smith shared the screen with Michael Bay in Bad Boys. However, Deadline reports that the actors are eyeing a reunion in Netflix’s action film titled Fast & Loose. Reportedly, Bay is in talks to direct the film, which will star Smith in the lead role.
The Pursuit of Happyness actor also co-produces the project alongside Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for 87North. The story follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories; Reuniting his past, he realizes that he is living two lives simultaneously. One as a crime lord and the other as a secret CIA agent.
Fast & Loose is written by John Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson, while Robert Simmonds and Noah Fogelson serve as executive producers for STXFilms. Bay and Smith became iconic in the 1995 action film Bad Boys. The film was Bay’s directorial debut and became a major commercial hit, earning three follow-up films – Bad Boys II, Bad Boys for Life, and the recently released Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
According to the official synopsis, the original film was based on “two hip detectives” trying to protect a murder witness “while investigating a case of heroin stolen from the evidence storage room at their police precinct.”
Both Smith and Bay went on to have significant careers after delivering cult classic action films. In 2021, the former earned an Oscar for his role as Richard Williams in King Richard. The following year, he starred in the Apple TV+ action-thriller Emancipation. The actor – whose filmography includes Men in Black, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Aladdin and several other projects – is set to appear in Sony Pictures’ sci-fi thriller Resist. The film is based on the 2014 novel Influx by Daniel Suarez.
Bay’s credits include the Transformers franchise and Pearl Harbor. The actor-director is in talks with former Paramount Pictures president Adam Goodman to develop a film or TV adaptation of the animated Internet meme Skibby Toilet.
