The 71st National Film Award, honoring the best Indian cinema in 2023, today, was declared by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 1 August.

Among the major winners are Vikrant Massey and Shah Rukh Khan, who have been awarded the Best Actor for their performance by his reviewers in the ’12th Fail’ and ‘Jawan’ respectively. Rani Mukherjee has been named Best Actress for her powerful role in ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’.

Directed by veteran filmmaker Tariha Vinod Chopra, ’12th Fail’ is a biographical drama based on the real -life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rises from poverty to become an IPS officer. Wickran Massey’s portrayal earned widespread praise and now, a prestigious National Film Award. Medha Shankar also plays an important role in the film.

Released in September 2023, ‘Jawan’, directed by Atley, became a blockbuster with a mixture of action, emotion and star power. Shah Rukh Khan has played two roles – Azad, a jailer who secretly serves as a vigilance, and Vikram Rathor, his old version.

With a team of strong female fighters, they fight against corruption and social injustice. The film also includes Nayantara as a strict police, trying to stop him, and Vijay Sethupathi as a powerful villain Kali, which adds severe stress to the story.

Rani Mukherjee starrer ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway’ is a Hindi film of 2023, based on the real story of Sagarika Chakraborty, whose children were taken away by Norway’s child welfare services, such as cultural differences and children to sleep with children.

Rani plays the role of a strong Bengali mother Debika, who bravely fights the system that considers her Indian parenting style wrong. His powerful performance was praised by critics and also won the Filmfare Critics Award.

Jury officially on Friday, Union Minister of State Dr. Along with L. Murugan and Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju, the list of awards was presented to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav present at the event. The award ceremony is available for public viewing through the official live-stream of the Ministry of Ministry.
