Why young Indian visions are facing problems

Experts have warned that excessive screen exposure, poor lifestyle habits and environmental factors are running a dangerous tendency of eye -related problems among young Indians.

One of the biggest causes of increasing eye disorders is the increasing use of a digital screen.

India is seeing an increase in eye related problems among its young population. From digital eye strain to Myopia, more people are experiencing more vision issues in their adolescence and twenty -nine conditions that were once seen mainly in older adults.

Experts have warned that excessive screen exposure, poor lifestyle habits and environmental factors are running this dangerous trend.

Digital screen and young eyes

One of the biggest causes of increasing eye disorders is the increasing use of a digital screen.

Dr. Lalit Verma, Asia Pacific Academy of Eye Eye Sciences (APAO) 2025 Congress President, called it ‘mute epidemic’. He warned that scrolling on the reels and scrolling on the smartphone is leading to dry eye syndrome, I Strain, Myopia Pragati and even early onset.

“A student had recently come to us with constant eye irritation and blurred vision. After the examination, we found that their eyes were not producing enough tears due to the time of the screen. They were immediately placed on eye drops and advised to follow the 20-20-20 rule. To take a 20-second break in 20 seconds,” Dr. Verma said that the news agency said.

Dr. Harbansh Lal, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Chairman of the All India Eye Society, further states that small materials like reels contribute to the problem. Dr. “These videos have been designed to draw attention for a long time, which has reduced the blink rates by 50%.”

He said, “It leads to dry-eye syndrome and housing cramps, making it difficult for the eyes to focus between near and distant objects. If this habit remains uncontrolled, this can cause long-term vision problems and permanent eye stress,” he said.

Lifestyle factor eye health deteriorating

Beyond the digital screen, lifestyle options are also deteriorating eye health. Inactive habits, lack of external activity, and unhealthy diets contribute to diabetic retinopathy, high blood pressure retinopathy and early cataract formation.

Dr. Ruchita Falera, Dr. Advisor to Aggarwal Eye Hospital, Bangalore, an ophthalmologist reported that smoking and obesity increased the risk of severe eye diseases such as glucoma and age -related spotted degeneration (loss of middle part of the retina).

He advised, “A nutritious, balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables and omega -3 fatty acids helps to maintain good eye health. Quit smoking and maintaining an active lifestyle can prevent diseases like cataract andist degeneration,” he advised.

Urbanization also plays a role. Mumbai -based ophthalmologist Dr. According to Minal Kanre, the urban population faces a high prevalence of dry eye disease due to increase in screen time and poor air quality.

He said, “pollutants such as smoke and exit gases make allergic eye diseases more common. On the other hand, rural population is more prone to infections and age -related diseases due to limited access to eye care services,” he said.

Increase in myopia and other eye disorders

One of the most trends is the increasing number of young Indians that are developing Myopia (proximity).

Dr. Lal said that more children and teenagers need more glasses than ever before. The study estimates that by 2050, more than 50% of the world’s population will be myopic.

“In India, now we see the ups and downs in the lens of the lens till the age of 30, whereas earlier, it stabilized at 21,”

Doctors are also increasing thyroid -related eye disorders, especially among women, as well as autoimmune conditions such as Sjogren’s syndrome and lupus, which can cause changes in dry, swollen eyes and vision.

How to manage and stop eye problems

While eye disorders are increasing, experts say that preventive measures can help protect vision. Dr. Flera suggested appropriate eye care in the form of regular eye examination, lifestyle modifications and major solutions.

Some important steps to maintain eye health include:

  • Follow the 20-20-20 rule to reduce digital eye stress.
  • Ensure adequate sleep (7-8 hours) and stay hydrated.
  • Wearing UV-protected sunglasses to prevent sun damage.
  • Eating a nutrient -rich diet with leafy greens, fish and nuts.
  • To engage in external activities to reduce the risk of myopia progression.
  • Quit smoking and maintain overall good health.

Early diagnosis and intervention are also important.

Dr. Kanhere said, “Conditions such as glucoma and diabetic retinopathy can cause irreversible vision loss. Regular eye check -up helps to quickly detect these problems and prevent serious complications.”

Along with more young Indians who experience eye problems, awareness and active care is required. Lifestyle changes and priority to eye health between the younger generation can reduce the rising risk of long -term vision issues, the doctors confirmed.
