Google’s online and mobile calendar no longer includes women’s history month, black history month and LGBTQ+ holidays. Over the years, the world’s largest discovery engine used its popular online services to remind users to remind them of cultural events by marking their calendar app, but in the last few weeks, users have seen that it was no longer displaying those comments.
Technical giants are said to have removed the calendar observation last year due to political reasons. According to a Google spokesperson, every year manually maintaining hundreds of moments for different countries was “scalable or durable”.
“A few years ago, the calendar team manually began adding a wide set of cultural moments of countries around the world. We received the response that some other programs and countries were missing – and hundreds of moments were manually and constantly not scalable or durable globally,” said in the statement.
“So in mid -2024 we returned to show only public holidays and national observation from Timeanddate.com globally, while allowing users to add other important moments manually.”
Google’s calendar app is allegedly used by more than 500 million people worldwide for work and personal reasons.
The decision not to accept important events now follows a change in policy making from the company in California, especially in the backdrop of Donald Trump for the presidency. Ever since it was estimated that the Republican leaders would be returning to the White House, many technical giants including Google had flipped on their pre-diversity, equity and inclusion (DII) and quir-friendly policies.

Google scrap dei
In February, Google’s original company, Alphabet, announced that it is ending its goal to hiring more employees from underprotence groups and review some of its DEI initiatives.
Google, which sells cloud computing and other services to the US government, also said that it was reviewing the policy changes by Mr. Trump in the government and with the objective of curbing the DEI among the federal contractors.
“We are a federal contractor, so our teams are evaluating changes in our programs required to comply with recent decisions on the subject and American executive orders,” said in an email by the chief people of Fiona Sikkoni, Alphabet.
Google also revealed at the end of January that users in the US would be converted to the Gulf of Mexico to “Gulf of America”, when Mr. Trump signed an executive order to change the name.
