Being an artist can be a physically demanding job, and sometimes health certainly takes a hit. Sir Richard Starkey, better known as Ringo Starr, had to cut his fall tour short due to a minor illness. The 84-year-old rocker and his All Starr Band announced the cancellation of the final two shows of their current tour on Tuesday, September 24.
In the press release, the star’s representative stated, “Ringo has come down with a cold, and after consulting with a doctor, he has been advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get some rest.” The canceled performances were scheduled for Tuesday night at the TD Pavilion at The Manse in Philadelphia and Wednesday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Despite his recent illness, the star has remained active. He and his bandmates kicked off their fall tour in San Diego on September 7 and had completed 10 shows before his health took a turn for the worse.
Tourmates include Colin Hay, Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter, Hamish Stuart, Gregg Bissonette and Warren Ham. On the work front, the singer is currently hard at work on a country album with T Bone Burnett, details of which will be announced next month.
He released the EP Crooked Boy in April, his fourth EP containing four songs, all written and produced by Linda Perry.
Age is no big deal for the musician, despite recently celebrating his 84th birthday, the star is as busy as ever and last year he told People that he knows age is just a number.
“Nothing makes me feel old. In my mind, I’m 27,” he said. “Wisdom is a heavy word. (Getting old) is just like that, and you try to keep yourself busy.”
Furthermore, Ringo Starr revealed that he never had to try very hard to maintain a positive outlook on life. He said that he never really felt down, admitting that he had his moments, but overall, his spirits remained high. He emphasized his optimistic outlook by saying, “That’s really all I can say.”
Ringo has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: first as a member of the Beatles and later as a solo artist.
