YJHD to Brahmstra, why Ayan Mukherjee belongs to the language of love, no noise of war
Ayan Mukherjee, who once attracted the audience with the warmth and feelings of ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’, takes a sharp turn in high-octane action with ‘War 2’. However, the shift seems mismatched, the revelation of its true strength lies in the emotional story, not the spectacle.

In short
- Ayan Mukherjee direction ‘War 2’ released in theaters on August 14
- Known for emotional films, the director tried his fate in action style
- ‘War 2’ action and plot failed to impress the audience
We realized every word when Ranbir Kapoor’s character became ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ (2013) said ‘Chief Udana Chahta Hoon, Dadana Chahta Hoon, Girna Bhi wants Hoon, just Rukna Nahi Chahta (I want to fly, I want to run, I also want to fall, I just don’t want to stop). ‘Twelve years later, director Ayan Mukherjee has returned to show us what is going on and chasing in’ War 2 ‘ – this time in a different scenario. Filmmaker who once took us to tears Tea Date and trekking trips now take us to the car world and explode helicopters.
When Ayan Mukherjee made his debut with ‘Wake Up Sid’ (2009), The industry saw a filmmaker with a rare gift: someone who could catch the small intimacy of life with an honesty that felt refreshed. There is someone who can sell the young dream, and can convince us when his hero moved on a journey of self-khoj.
His films did not have the grandeur or spectacle of the YRF spy universe, but there was an honesty and simplicity that lived with IS. With ‘Yeh Javani Hai Deewani’, Mukherjee took the young Vibe of his direction skills at a high position. He portrayed friendship, heartbreak, Vanderalst and romance in a way that echoed deeply with an entire generation. Their characters were not superstars; They were us.

Now, the director started in action style YRF’s ‘War 2’ Which was wondering why? It is difficult to remember the incompatibility. We almost thought that after ‘Brahmastra’ (2022), Mukherjee would do a lot of promising work with ‘War 2’. However, things did not sit well in their case.
A filmmaker who can portray love and heartbreak in his pure form, felt mismatched in a style that thrives on guns, chases and explosions. From the introduction of JR NTR to the six-pack ABS sequence of their multi-round ABS sequence, everything scratched their heads, discovering the reasoning behind it.
There were some scenes that looked forcibly, and endless globetrotting was simply added to cervical pain. The story was just lack of depth, and the poor VFX and CGI cut us further.

Another big issue with Mutual direction in ‘War 2’ How the plot twist became flat. Typically, a twist in the story is a moment where the audience sits to notice things. In the action drama, such as the big Swaras connecting Hrithik and Junior NTRs, many people did not realize the enthusiasm.
It only felt like any other moment in the film, failing to hit the spot. In detective films or heavy action drama, a turn essentially raises the story, but in ‘War 2’, it became a backfire.
When Mukherjee brought ‘Brahmastra’, a huge CGI, a big-to-life scene and a trilogy based on the biggest stars of Indian cinema, some were immediately clicked. A story to tell that the director had a plan, no matter how expensive it is, or the animated it looks on the screen.
For a person, whose strength is emotionally resonant, in the stories of incoming age, ‘War 2’ looks like a wrong choice for a person. Action by nature demands a certain patience, edge and rawness. Think of other films of The Spy Universe – Siddharth Anand’s ‘Pathan’ and ‘War’. Think about Kabir Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and how all these films thrive on adrenaline, speed and style action.
Mukerji, by contrast, is a filmmaker of emotions, not an explosion. Their lens is designed for romance against the backdrop of travel, friendship and longing, not detective or detective-spasm-spy drama. At least ‘war 2’ proves to be the same.

While we still argue on what really works for the director, we cannot forget how Karan Johar’s religious products have been the best tasks of Mookerji. The banner has always been the director’s best work home, where his talent was nurtured, and his vision was given a wide canvas that gave beautiful love stories. Along with religion, the director distributed two most defined films of the 21st century.
Therefore, instead of trying to make him versatile, perhaps the right thing is to let him do what he does best. Ayan Mukherjee’s cinema works best when it is about the heart, not the fight.
