Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has spoken about his choice to live a simple and disciplined life, sharing details about his approach towards personal wealth and the filmmaking process. In a recent discussion on Game Changers’ YouTube channel, Kashyap explained why he prefers not to follow industry trends of luxury shopping, including cars, preferring to focus on what is practical and suits his needs. He discussed how he balances his work, lifestyle, and personal beliefs about success and satisfaction.

Kashyap revealed that he is not interested in acquiring lavish properties or high-end vehicles, and finds satisfaction in his current situation. He said, “I don’t want to own a building or a mansion. I still live in Versova (Mumbai) and I am very happy there. I have now shifted to Bengaluru, and I am happy that I am a little away from the industry now. But I am constantly working. I have not stopped working,” reflecting his satisfaction with a quiet life away from the center of the film industry.

When asked about his choice of vehicles, Kashyap revealed that he has only one car, which he shares with his daughter. Explaining why he finds his Mahindra car more suitable for his lifestyle, he said, “I have a car and I share it with my daughter. It’s a Mahindra. My friends bought Audis, Mercedes. But when it rains and floods in Mumbai, their cars stop working. And it costs a lot of money to fix them. At half that price, you can buy a Mahindra. I have never owned any other car other than a Mahindra. Have purchased.” Kashyap bought the car in March 2025 and shared its pictures on social media.

Unlike many in the industry who opt for high-priced luxury cars, Kashyap said he prefers something that can withstand the challenges of Mumbai’s weather. Reports suggest that their Mahindra XEV 9e, a model known for its durability, is priced at around Rs 30 lakh for the top variant.

The director has applied the same philosophy to his filmmaking. Kashyap has often said that working with a limited budget gives him the opportunity to make his best films. He believes that reducing unnecessary expenses can bring out creativity and prevent financial loss to other people involved in a project.

On the subject of commercial cinema, Kashyap said, “To take a film to the lowest ebb and make it widespread, it has to be scaled down. And if you don’t want to scale it down, then scale back the budget. Don’t spend unnecessarily and stay in five-star hotels. Make the film you want to make, but don’t harm anyone else. The biggest problem with the art of filmmaking is that you are making it at someone else’s expense.” He explained the importance of financial responsibility in film production.

Kashyap said that the financial loss of his film ‘Bombay Velvet’ had a huge impact on him, as its budget increased from Rs 28 crore to Rs 90 crore. This experience strengthened his belief in careful budgeting and avoiding unnecessary costs. For them, a disciplined approach in both life and work is essential to maintain peace and avoid regrets.

recently, Kashyap releases his latest film ‘Nishanchi’And his second project, ‘Bandar’, was presented at the Toronto International Film Festival. ‘Bandar’ stars Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra and Saba Azad, but its release date in India has not been announced yet.
