Asta Terblanche, who played Gillian Andrassy on All My Children, has died at the age of 51. According to her manager, Annie Spoliansky, Terblanche died suddenly in Los Angeles on Thursday. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the cause of her death is not yet known and is under investigation.

Her manager, Annie Spoliansky, confirmed her death in a statement, writing, “We are deeply saddened by this news. As for a personal statement, I would like to say that Asta was an extremely kind, loving, giving and caring person.” From 1997 to 2001, TerBlanche played Gillian Andrassy Lavery on the popular ABC soap opera All My Children.

Terblanche was born on January 7, 1973 in Rustenburg, Transvaal, South Africa. Terblanche was of Huguenot descent. Terblanche won the title of Miss Teen South Africa in 1991. Later, Terblanche played the role of Bianchi Naudé Hartmann in the South African drama Egoli: Place of Gold from 1992 to 1995.
Asta Terblanche’s stint on All My Children
Rather than extend her contract with Egoli, Terblanche opted to pursue her acting career in the United States in 1995. Terblanche was cast to play Gillian Andrassy in the American drama All My Children in 1997. Her character was married to Cameron Mathison’s character, Ryan Lavery, who removed her from life support after she was accidentally shot by an assassin.
In 2001, a mischievous princess named Gillian was removed from the show after Terblanche requested her removal so she could return to South Africa. In 2011, when the series closed after four decades on ABC, Terblanche made a brief appearance as Gillian’s ghost.
In 2004, Terblanche appeared as a guest on Egoli: Place of Gold.(7) She did further television and film work in South Africa, but eventually returned to the United States.
