Alice Roharwakar has been selected to preside over the Golden Camera Jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Italian directors have been associated with the event since 2011, and in the upcoming edition, the filmmaker The Night of the Closing Ceremony will select the best debut director.
Taking his move for his prestigious position at the Film Festival, the Italian native mentioned in his statement that, “First is always important and they live with us for the rest of our life.”
He said, “Like entering an unfamiliar room, reaching someone’s beloved for the first kiss, or landing on a foreign bank. Something golden that solves these moments in our memory. That is why the most prestigious award for the first films is called Camra D’Or?”
Meanwhile, Rohrvakar, born in Fisol in 1981, has completed his studies in Turin and Lisbon. The director soon stepped into the music and film industry. The filmmaker worked strictly as an editor and musician for the documentary projects and theater.
Rohrvakar’s first feature film, the late body, made his way for Cannes and premiered in the directionors’ category. Other notable titles by the filmmaker include The Wonders, which also made his way for the Film Festival in 2014, and as Happy Lazo, which is available to stream on Netflix.
Accepting the presence of Italian origin at the Film Festival, the organizers of Cannes stated that Ruharwakar’s first film “discovered through a 13 -year -old girl’s portrait and a rapport with the world from the beginning.”
He further said, “His second feature, The Wonders (Le Mervigley) was selected to compete in the 2014 festival de Kan and won the Grand Prix. This personal story develops a separate farm and daily life of young sisters on modern society, which holds them with a reality show filming.”
The Cannes Film Festival is set to run from 13 to 24 May.
