Actress Anne Hathaway has been a household name in Hollywood for decades. She’s known for her striking looks and outstanding roles, from her breakout role as Princess Mia Thermopolis in 2001’s The Princess Diaries to her Oscar-winning performance as Fantine in 2012’s Les Misérables to her recent romantic film The Idea of You.
While millions of fans, followers, and admirers are in awe of Anne Hathaway’s evergreen charisma and are in awe of her beauty both on-screen and off-screen, not many know that the actress has decided to keep her personal life private – including her 11-year marriage to Adam Shulman.
The actress probably broke millions of hearts when she surprised her fans by marrying her then-boyfriend of four years, Shulman, in 2012, when she was 29 years old.
Now, more than a decade and two kids later, the couple is strong, committed and mostly away from the paparazzi and spotlight. The actress previously told Harper’s Bazaar UK that it was love at first sight for both men.
Hathaway told USA Today that she and Schulman enjoy a quiet, relaxed lifestyle.
“We have parties at home and dinner parties and spend time together,” she said. “I’m very happy with (Adam). He’s everything you want in a partner. I feel happy in his presence,” she added.

Adam Shulman is also an actor
In 2005, Shulman appeared in five episodes of the TV series American Dreams. He also played Deputy Enos Strait in the TV movie The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning around 2007. West Wing superfans may recognize him as Youth Voter #1 in a 2006 episode called Duck and Cover. In addition to his acting skills, Shulman earned a degree in theater from Brown University in 2003.
Interestingly, Shulman and Hathaway met at the Palm Springs Film Festival in 2008, and in keeping with a woman’s true inner sense of humor, Hathaway later told Harper’s Bazaar UK in their February 2013 cover story that she told a mutual friend at the time, “I’m going to marry that man. I think he thought I was a little crazy, which I am, but I’m also nice.”
Adam Shulman is also a jewelry designer
In addition to the many jobs Shulman holds, he is also a jewelry designer and co-owns the jewelry company James Banks Design with designer Heidi Nahser Fink, whom he first met on the set of Hathaway’s film Alice in Wonderland (Nahser Fink designed the jewelry and props for the film).
Shulman, with the help of diamond jewelry company Quiet, also designed the engagement ring she presented to Hathaway in 2012. Furthermore, Hathaway told ELLE during an interview for Women in Washington in April 2017 that she once cared too much about other people’s opinions of herself.
However, she credited Shulman for many changes in her life, including her worldview. She said she became spontaneous and began to trust people. Hathaway’s previous ex-husband, Raffaello Follieri, was arrested for fraud, so she had to go through a tough time in her early 20s. But she admitted in several interviews that after meeting her husband, he changed her life.
3. Adam Shulman is from New York
Hathaway and Shulman are both native New Yorkers, and the couple has visited the city several times and spent time together. In fact, the couple first sparked engagement rumors in 2011, when the actress was spotted wearing an engagement ring while walking with Shulman in Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn.
The couple has not been spotted together anywhere else by the media. The couple also starred together in the indie drama “Song One” in 2014. Hathaway starred in the film, while her husband co-produced it.

4. Adam Shulman is a great dad
Just four years after exchanging wedding vows, they welcomed their first son, Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman, born in March 2016. Two months after giving birth, Hathaway revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that as a father, Shulman is “pretty amazing.”
In 2019, the Oscar-winning actress announced her second pregnancy. The couple’s second child, a boy named Jack, was born in November 2019. Hathaway posted an adorable black-and-white photo of her baby bump and surprised her fans with the news.
Furthermore, in a conversation with Jimmy Kimmel, when asked if the couple planned to have another child, Hathaway said, “Yeah, I don’t know. Some minutes I say, ‘Yeah, absolutely,’ and some minutes I say, ‘The world scares me too much.'”
5. Adam Shulman and Anne Hathaway have the same tattoos
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Hathaway revealed that she and Shulman have the same “M” tattoo. Well, considering how attracted the couple is to each other even after all these years, we’re not surprised.
“The idea is that individually we are perfect, but together we are even more,” he said, adding that they are proud of their uniqueness and do not need their partner, and vice versa, but they choose to be together because they believe they make each other better.
