What is lorazepam and what does it do?
Lorazepam belongs to a square of drugs called benzodiazepines, which acts on the brain and nervous system to create a calm effect. It is usually used to treat anxiety, insomnia and seizures. Additionally, it is sometimes determined before medical procedures to help patients relax.
Senior Advisory Psychiatrist at Cadbams Hospitals Dr. According to Priya Raghavan, Lorazepam can be highly effective when used correctly.
“It has a soothing and calm effect on the brain. In those with insomnia, it helps them to relax and feel. It is also used as a sedative before anesthesia and to manage the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal,” Dr. Raghavan said.
However, the misuse of the drug is a major concern.
“Lorzepam, enhances the effects of GABA, provides short -term relief from a cool neurotransmitter, stress and nervousness attacks in the brain. But excessive use can cause dependence,” Shalby Hospital Ahmedabad Advisor Psychiatrist Psychiatrist Dr. Kalv Mystery explained.
Risks of side effects and misuse
Despite its benefits, Lorazepam is not without risk. Some of its common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, confusion and memory problems.
In some cases, it can cause respiratory depression, a serious condition where the breath slows down, is probably dangerously leading to low oxygen levels.
Dr. Raghavan said, “Lorzepam affects the dopamine routes, causing this habit,” Dr. Raghavan said, “This is why it is a prescription medicine and should be used carefully under medical supervision.”
The risk of addiction is particularly related. “Lorzepam is classified as a schedule H1 drug in India, which means a prescription requires. Unfortunately, the level of tension in some areas and easy availability gave rise to issues of misuse and dependence,” Dr. Mystery said.
Importance of responsible use
In India, Lorzepam is sold under various brands including Environment, Benz, Trapex, Prison. It is also sold under different powers.
Given the ability of addiction, doctors emphasize responsible prescription and alternative treatments. Dr. Mistry said, “Long -term anxiety care should not only rely on the drug.
If you or any of your familiar people are facing anxiety, experts strongly advise to seek medical advice rather than self-healing.
Dr. Mistry advised, “Consult a psychiatrist instead of self-discriminating the drugs. The responsible use ensures safety and better mental health results,” Dr. Mystery advised.
While the drug can be beneficial when used properly, it is necessary to understand its risks and follow medical guidance to prevent dependence or harmful side effects.
