SS Rajamouli is set to return to the big screen with his much awaited film, SSMB29, starring Mahesh Babu in the lead role. Interestingly, the visionary director once compared the “enthusiasm” to watch films in a theater citing examples of Rajinikanth and Salman Khan.

In an old interview of 2022, SS Rajamouli compared the quality of looking at a cinema in theaters on OTT platforms. He said, “As an example, suppose we see an inaugural shot of Salman Khan or Rajinikanth, where they come into a boxing ring and open their shirts.”
“When you see in theaters, you don’t care why they are doing this. People will simply shout, shout, and throw paper to experience it. When you are in theaters, you will experience that enthusiasm. However, when you see the same thing on the OTT, you will not get the same experience,” he said.

SSMB29 is considered a globe-trotting jungle adventure, in which Mahesh Babu plays a rugged explorer inspired by Indiana Jones and African folklore.
As part of Mahesh Babu’s 50th birthday celebrations, the manufacturers shared that the official disclosure would be in November 2025. The team has promised that it would be a ‘never seen’.
Sharing the update, the team indicated that the film’s title could be “globatrotter”. Allegedly, the crew is set to start shooting in South Africa from the second week of September 2025. Recently, he allegedly shot scenes with Priyanka Chopra Jonas at an indoor studio in Hyderabad.
Additionally, there are reports that the film will be given the title of General 63, in which the story revolves around a hero, who descends from a revered genealogy line as a 63rd generation successor.
Playing co-leaders with Mahesh Babu and Priyanka, the film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and R Madhavan in lead roles.
Initially, there were speculation that SSMB29 would be released as a two-part series after filming in 2026. However, the manufacturers have allegedly reconsidered their decisions and are now planned to release it as a single venture, with a temporary release date in 2027.
