Giving details about the plot at the Synapse 2024 event in Gurgaon, the director of Mahanati revealed that the timeline of the film will begin from the Mahabharata. Starting from the Mahabharata, the film ends in 2898 AD, spanning 6000 years.

It imagines a world with diverse Indian themes, avoiding any similarities to Blade Runner. Starting 6000 years ago, 2898 BC corresponds to 3102 BC, which marks the demise of the last incarnation of Krishna.
