Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan is known for her outspokenness and her habit of speaking her mind. In an old interview, she admitted that she is a strict parent to her son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter Shweta Bachchan, but she is not strict with her daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

During her appearance on fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla’s chat show, Jaya was told that there are rumours that she is a strict parent. The actor agreed and said, “Very strict.” When Abu Jani further asked her, “Are you like a mother-in-law?” Jaya replied, “Strict? She is not my daughter. She is my daughter-in-law. Why should I be strict with her? I am sure her mother has done that for her.”

Abhishek Bachchan married Aishwarya Rai on April 20, 2007. The couple has a daughter named Aaradhya. Although Jaya calls herself a ‘strict parent’, Abhishek disagrees, as in an interview with Zoom in 2023, he said, “Contrary to people’s opinion, my mother is not strict.”

During the same interview, Jaya also spoke about the difference she feels between a daughter and a daughter-in-law. She said, “There is a difference between a daughter and a daughter-in-law, you know. I mean, I don’t know why, but don’t you feel you need to respect your parents? With your in-laws, you can’t do that.” This interview, which is now available on YouTube, was originally aired on NDTV Good Times.

Furthermore, Jaya also mentioned her evolved outlook, saying, “And later, things changed – because today, I feel more Bachchan than Bhaduri.” Jaya got the Bachchan surname after marrying Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan in 1973.

Talking about films, Jaya Bachchan was last seen in a lead role in Karan Johar’s hit film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The film also featured Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and Dharmendra.
