Govinda, best known for films like Hero No.1, Coolie No.1, Had Kar Di Aapne and Partner, is one of the best actors in the Hindi film industry. Though Govinda has been away from the silver screen for quite some time now, there was a time when he had signed “70 films” after his debut, some of which he had to later let go of.
Govinda was once left speechless while working with his co-star Raaj Kumar in the 1989 film Jangbaaz.
Govinda gifted a shirt to Raj Kumar on the sets of Jangbaaz
In a recent interview with Bollywood Thikana, filmmaker Mehul Kumar, who directed Jangbaaz, recalled an incident that happened between Govinda and Raaj Kumar on the sets.
“Govinda came wearing a shirt and Raj sahab complimented him. Govinda thought he must have really complimented him and then (he) took off the shirt and gifted it to Raj sahab (Govinda wore a shirt on the set which Raj Kumar complimented the actor on). Govinda didn’t get the sarcasm so he took off the shirt and gifted it to him,” Kumar said.
He said, “Raj sahab would then make a handkerchief out of the same shirt the next day and would use it on the set and everyone would clean their hands with it.”
Talking about Govinda, the director revealed that the actor didn’t react, however, he might have felt bad about it.
When Raj Kumar asked him about Govinda’s personality, Mehul Kumar recalled
In the same interview, Mehul Kumar revealed how Raj Kumar would often see Govinda dancing on the sets. Recalling his words, the director said that the late veteran actor asked him why Govinda keeps dancing on the sets.
Though the filmmaker laughed it off saying that he is a dancer, the Tiranga actor did not agree with it.
Before Jungbaaz, Govinda and Raaj Kumar first worked together in Marte Dam Tak (1987).
Raj Kumar is remembered for films like Saudagar, Waqt, Mother India, Pakeezah, Humraaz, Dil Ek Mandir, Heer Ranjha and Neel Kamal.
